Fixing clearance problems along bike routes

It's easier than you might think.

For more than a month, there has been an annoying and potentially dangerous branch hanging down over the bike lane on 8th Street between Douglas and Oak. On at least two occasions - once when I was day dreaming and once when I swerved so as not to be hit by a younger cyclist - the branch whacked me on the helmet.   I took my own pruning sheers and tried to improve the situation, but realized that the major problem was a dead branch, helmet level, that was too sturdy for my pruning.

On Thursday last, I called the Parks and General Services Department of the City (757-5656), reported the problem and provided the street address.  On Monday City staff inspected the problem, posted the sign to declare the need to remove branches and on this Thursday morning, Public Works trimmed the branch.

If I had known that the City Staff would respond this rapidly, I would have called them much sooner
