Budget Cuts Sink Tour and Davis Double

The failure to achieve a budget settlement has scuttled the 2011 Amgen Tour of California and in a stunning setback has also resulted in the cancellation of the Davis Double Century.

In Town Replacement for Double Century Eyed

The Davis Bike Club announced today that a replacement ride for the traditional route to the Davis Double Century had been devised. "It's a little different but we'll be breaking new ground," said club president Stuart Bresnick. We're excited about being able to offer what will be the most unusual double century in California history.

UCI changes pro cycling equipment regulations

In an effort to raise the visibilty of cycling and make it more relevent to the common person, the Union Cycliste International (UCI) has changed the requirements for bicycles beginning with the 2012 cycling season.

New Assembly Measure to Tax Bikes, Tubes

A new bill, introduced today by Assemblymember Gertrude Atherton, will provide for a tax of 10% over and above sales tax on all bicycle-type vehicle sales. A tax of a flat $10 per item is also imposed on the sale of all bicycle tubes and tires. Revenue from the taxes will go toward the state's highway fund
