2008 Tour thru Provence
Mt Ventoux Summit; Provence 2008

Bicycle touring is one of the most popular activities offered by the Davis Bike Club. Many of our members participate in what is a perfect blend of scenic travel, cycling, and social interaction. Our tours vary from overnight trips in the local region to multi-week excursions to foreign countries. They include self- supported rides and trips with SAG support. Routes may be linear, looped, or "hub tours", where daily rides depart from a central location.

Tours are geared to a variety of cycling interests and abilities. We have family tours for riders of all ages. Theme tours are educational and entertaining, with emphasis on local history and culture. Tour with longer daily distances over terrain with hills and mountain passes are designed to attract cyclists seeking a more challenging ride. Our Tour Rating Guide helps prospective tourists choose select their desired ride. (A key to the tour rating guide is on the Tour Policy page.)

DBC emphasizes safety, comfort, and security on all of our club tours. Whenever possible, tour leaders chose routes that are most appealing to cyclists in terms of scenery and road safety. Tour leaders will note unavoidable hazards in pre-ride meetings, along with location of tricky route turns, public restrooms, lunch stops, and points of historical interest. Additionally, tour leaders supply maps and cue sheets to all participating riders.

To the extent possible, tour accommodations are bike-friendly and support the need for overnight bike security. Assigned tour leaders are all veteran cyclists with past records of having successfully lead organized tours.

Club membership and a demonstrated record of volunteer participation in DBC events are a prerequisite to participating on a DBC tour. The Club is most receptive to ideas for future tours from anybody inside or outside the organization. And we are always looking for new tour leaders and offer an instructive and supportive training program for those interested.
