Why I Loved Deb Ford's Hill Climbing Clinic

A prose poem by Toni Terhaar Kanz

Two river otters swimming in Putah Creek downstream from the dam I wouldn't have seen in my car.

Descending down Cardiac, catching a pothole, reminding me to be safe.

Knowing there are experienced riders up ahead of me that are helpful if I ask.

Riding with friends, new and old.

Making friends, hearing positive words, accomplishing goals.

Rolling down rollers, gaining speed for the next hills.

Sharing a coffee at Steady Eddy's amazed that I just climbed Gibson, English Hills, Steiger, the Dam, and Cardiac.

What good fortune I have to belong to a club that reaches out to members who want a new challenge.

Thank you, Deb Ford, for putting together this clinic.
