It's time for the 2011 PBP!
Where will you be during the fourth week of August, Paris perhaps? Maybe not, for most of us, but for several of the DBC’s intrepid ultra-distance riders this is the year to journey to Paris. Every four years the famous PBP draws thousands of riders to the starting line just west of Paris for a 90 hour bike ride out to the Normandy city of Brest and return, hence PBP. The journey, an out-and-back route of 750 miles, or 1200Km, is labeled by the French as a randonnée.
- If this is Paris it must be time for the PBP!

The list at the right deserves some further explanation. These are the DBC riders who have qualified for PBP and are fortunate enough to be able to attend the quadrennial event. Many other riders also qualified by riding a full set of DBC’s brevets this spring, but are not on this list. Many other Americans also qualified, but in other parts of the United States. Many of them are also on the master list for all American riders traveling to PBP. You can find the entire list of USA riders here.
The Start column is a special number indicating what group the rider is starting with. There are several groups and 3 different start times depending on whether you feel you can finish in 80 hours, 84 hours or need all 90 hours allowed. Additional explanation of the Start numbers is found here.
The Frame number is the most important! With a rider’s frame number you can track the rider’s progress for the entire length of the ride. The French hosts of PBP have provided a web page for you to enter the rider’s frame number and get a report on the last checkpoint they passed. Check your favorite rider’s progress here.
Many Club members have volunteered their time this past spring in support of the ultra-distance riders. Our qualifying brevets: 200km, 300km, 400km and 600km are what’s needed for Club members to be allowed entry into the prestigious PBP event.
