Winters Criterium September 18, 2011 Men’s Cat 3 1st place

The Winters course was a lot of fun. It has a smooth wide corners fast course. The promoters did a wonderful job putting this event on. Also, nothing better than putting on a Race for a great cause: the registration proceeds support Winters Education Foundation.

Fred Schnarrs is all smiles atop the podium for the Winters Criterium Cat 3 race

I went out to Winters to race the 35+ 3's, and then was going to drive to Folsom Cyclobration to race the 45+1/2/3's criterium.

After locking my keys in the car, I decided to stay, and race the Cat 3's. Now for obvious reasons I'm glad I did. While it was nice to catch the winning break, I have to say it came about because of the actions of Michael Claudio, Jeff Shaller, and Bruno Pitton. It was because of their constant attacks on the group, both in trying to establish a break, and bringing back ones that got off the front that I was lucky enough to make the one that stuck.  Breaks are like a game of darts... Throw enough of them, and eventually one is going to stick the bull’s eye (break). Once I was off the front, it was nice to know I had guys covering my back.

I had told Mike afterwards that once I was off the front. I was thinking to myself if I got caught, it was really nice to know I still had sprinters that would be there to deliver when needed.  Mike, Jeff, Bruno... Thank you!

 Ciao and Out... FF

Editors Note: Fred also placed 5th in the race earlier Winters Crit Men’s 35+1/2/3 race.
