Tour of California lost for 2011
The failure to achieve a budget settlement has scuttled the 2011 Amgen Tour of California and in a stunning setback has also resulted in the cancellation of the Davis Double Century.

"We're angry and there will be consequences," said Medalist Sports spokesman Ron Albert. "For the State of California to cut off all CHP enforcement support this late in the game makes it impossible for us to go on." Mr. Albert went on to discuss the loss to all the local cities who had contracts with the ToC. "This short-sighted blunder will cost tax-payers a bundle."

Government leaders were not available to comment although several groups applauded the cancellation as vital to sustaining the state through such troubled times.

"I'm just pissed as hell," was Davis Double Century maven Robin Neuman who watched endless hours of planning go for naught. "I got a call about 8:00 PM with the news," Ms. Neuman said. "There was just no money for overtime scheduling or any other use of Highway Patrol vehicles, even though we were paying for the officers to help patrol the route. "It's a blow to the club because a substantial of our revenue comes from the Double Century and the Foxy Fall Century rides. Both of these are gone, now, until the State gets its act together. In other words, no time soon."

Ms. Neuman suggested that a local alternative to the Double Century was being considered.
