Newsletter

Last month our Newsletter Editor, Dutch Martinich, stepped down from his position. Right now the position is vacant, and will remain so for the rest of the year. We are taking this opportunity to try out an online newsletter. We may decide to stick with this approach, or return to an edited newsletter. During this period, we will print an information sheet to distribute to local bike shops in lieu of a full newsletter.

An online newsletter offers some advantages over a print newsletter:

  • It will be simpler to get out a newsletter each month
  • Creating the newsletter through the DBC website is far easier than laying out a print edition, opening up the position of Newsletter Editor to a wider pool of members.
  • Anyone can submit an article of any length and it will not need to be edited or formatted to fit in a print edition.
  • All content in the newsletter will reside on the DBC website and be fully searchable.
  • Pictures will be in color
  • We save the expense of printing and mailing newsletters

How it will be distributed:

  • Once the newsletter is up on the website, an email will be sent to all DBC members.
  • The email message will include a link to the newsletter as well as direct links to the lead articles.
  • The email will not carry a PDF attachment, nor will it be heavily formatted. It will be a small email message, easily downloadable and viewable even for dial-up connections.

Those of us working on the online version realize that some members really like to receive a paper copy. Nevertheless, the difficulty in finding a qualified volunteer who will produce a print newsletter each month, and the expense of printing and mailing paper copies, are two compelling reasons to try this new format.

We are trying to reach everyone this month be emailing a message to all people who have previously signed up for electronic newsletters, and emailing or snail mailing a message to all people who have previously signed up for a paper copy of the newsletter.

Please bear with us as we work out the kinks to make sure that everyone is aware of this change and has easy access to the newsletter.

2011 Board Nominees

Yes, the election season is once again fast approaching. This is your chance to join the board and help run the club. We are always looking for new faces. Your obligation is to attend monthly board meetings and actively participate in decisions. Several current board members are continuing in 2011, but a few positions will be open.

There are 16 Board positions, some are more demanding than others so there is something for everyone. If you would like to participate please contact me (President@davisbikeclub.org) and I will forward your name to the Nominating Committee.
