DBCRT Juniors

DBC RT LogoSeptember and October was a busy time for the DBC Junior Race Team. September marks the end of the racing season, and the beginning of a new season. The DBC Junior Race Team Directors (Russ and Toni) spent September and October looking for sponsors and organizing the annual recruitment meeting. We met with over 40 local businesses in Davis, Winters, and Woodland to find companies that were enthusiastic about sponsoring their local junior race team members. Our new sponsors are local businesses that are excited to support the Junior Race Team three fold mission: (1) to give aspiring junior cyclists access to racing both at the local and national level; (2) to develop an active, lifelong healthy lifestyle in our athletes; and (3) to create well-rounded, community-minded individuals.

September 25 was the annual recruitment meeting to organize our Junior Race Team riders for 2015. Thanks to John Hess, and the DBC partnership with the Hall of Fame, we were able to hold a successful recruitment meeting at the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. Voler Apparel representatives were present for anyone that wanted to try on sample clothing. We are excited to have both new and returning riders and a strong age 15-16 field.

The Juniors have been training hard and working on group skills. There have been evening group rides in September and October, but with the time change, evening rides will stop and transition to weekend rides. Flat and hill rides will continue, with a goal of riding Mt. Diablo, before the race season begins in January.

Two of our Juniors have been cyclocross racing with great success. We had an opportunity to participate in a cyclocross clinic led by Robin Farina (Women's Race Team Director) for all race team members. Robin was an excellent coach, we learned how to hop barriers quickly, and we worked on cornering skills. Everyone was tired by the end of the night.

On October 18 we traveled to Emeryville for the annual Northern California Nevada Cycling Association Banquet at the Clif Bar headquarters. Anna Park, Su Tuli, Jack Hargrove, Kilian Bush, Will Kanz and Parker Miller were given awards for placing in the Junior Points Series competition. We are really proud of these kids!
