April Alpinsanity

April Alpinsanity is a climb-for-charity challenge.  For every 100 feet of elevation gain that riders achieve, the DBC will donate 5 cents from its philanthropy budget to be dispersed evenly between two local non-profit organizations.  We are pleased to select Davis Bicycles! and the Food Bank of Yolo County to be our 2012 beneficiaries.

To illustrate how this challenge will work, if DBCers cumulatively climb 1,000,000 feet, $500 will be dispersed (DB! and the Food Bank will each receive $250).

April Alpinsanity will be extremely easy to participate in:

• Simply get on your bike and climb as much as you can during the month of April
• There is no entrance fee.
• You don't have to declare a climbing goal.
• Just find roads that go up.
• Mountain bikers are encouraged to participate.
• We'll have several special events that we hope will appeal to everyone.
• Log your elevation gains on the Alpinsanity Elevation Tracker
• It will be frightfully similar to the March Madness tracker.

Help!  I don't have GPS.  How do I know how much I climbed?

• Your ride buddy with a Garmin will share her/his data.
• There will be a reference list of local climbs and climbing routes on the DBC site (Mt Solano, Cantelow, Cardiac, Mix, etc.)
• There will be a resource page on how to map your ride on Ride with GPS.
• No device or mapping service is 100% accurate.  A ball-park figure is all we reasonably expect. Don't drive yourself crazy over this.
