April Bike Rodeos
Here's a chance to help elementary school students become better bike riders. The rodeos include helmet adjustments, bike mechanical checks and adjustments, informational handouts and riding instruction.
Rodeo #1 is at Birch Lane Elementary (East Davis). Date is Wed. afternoon April 18. Set up begins at 12:30. The event is 1:30 - 3:30.
Rodeo #2 is at North Davis Elementary. Date is Wed. afternoon, April 25. Set up begins at 12:30. The event is 1:30 - 3:30. Last year's attendance was more than 135 kids.
We need volunteers to help with event set up (tables, materials, course layout, signs), helmet checks (easy), bike safety check (basic mechanical skills and simple tools needed) and course monitors (riding experience and patience needed).
These have been a lot of fun. The enthusiasm of the kids and parents is great. It's a chance to see uniquely unrideable bikes (zero air in the tires, missing crucial parts) that somehow still make it to school. There's the satisfaction of helping kids become better cyclists.
