Downtown Racing hits Davis on July 4th

Join us downtown for some great racing!

On Wednesday, July 4th hundreds of cyclists will converge on downtown Davis for the 36th Annual Fourth of July Criterium. Sponsored by the Davis Bike Club Race Team, this is one of the most anticipated races of the year due to its long history, technical course, and enthusiastic crowds, not to mentioned the ideal setting of downtown Davis.

The 0.7 mile technical course starts at the intersection of F and 3rd Streets in front of Bistro 33 and Wheelworks and heads north to 4th Street where racers make a left turn. Two blocks later, they turn left onto D Street followed by a quick left on 3rd Street and right on E Street. After a left onto 2nd Street, the racers will take the final left turn up F Street to the finish. Multiple categories of racers will compete including Juniors as young as 10 years and Masters as “young” as 55. In many cases they will average more than 25 mph and hit top speeds of nearly 40 mph.

The first races will start at 7:30AM and include the Men Elite 5, Women Elite 4, and Masters (35 years and older) races. Junior races will start at 10:20AM with a Kids Fun Ride at 11:30. After the Men Elite 4 and 3 races, the Pro Women will begin competition at 3:05PM followed by the Pro Men at 4:00PM. The final race of the day at 5:10PM will be another Masters race for those over 35 years.

As always the success of the July 4th Criterium depends upon the support of the entire Davis Bike Club community. Come on out, enjoy some bike racing, and support our team.

[Volunteers are still needed to keep our race safe by monitoring corners and helping with other duties. Please contact Craig Dinger cadinger@hotmail.com for details.]
