Your DBCRT Athletes

In the first of this series we ask our DBCRT athletes to answer a set of questions that may change over time. Here we present 5 incredible riders from the men's and women's team who have racked up some impressive results this year and year's past.

 > 1. What is the most important lesson you've learned on a bike? In the last year?  Start setting up for the criterium sprint finish early.

> 2. Kid Rock or Eminem? Beyonce or Miley Cyrus?  Eminem

> 3. Gillette Venus or wax? Venus

> 4. What would you do if you could hang out with Bradley Wiggins or Marianne Vos for one day?  Ask her if she likes her name like I like mine. Just Joshing!  What was the turning point from being an average racer to a standout?

> 5. What's your proudest moment racing with DBC teammates?  The high placing of the Sarahs at Sea Otter.

> 6. Wente Crit or Winters Road Race?  No brainer here. Winters Road Race. I can do it in my sleep.

> 7.  Vegas or Tahoe National Forest? Tahoe National Forest

> 8. American Hustle or Frozen? American Hustle

> 9. When you were 16 were you a prude or prankster? Prankster

> 10. (Miss America question) How can bike racing or bikes save the planet?  Hopefully, racing bikes means you ride bikes outside of racing.  It keeps you connected to your environment (the road, fresh air, people, smells, critters).

> 1. What is the most important lesson you've learned on a bike? In the last year? I've found this competitive part of myself I never thought I had and learned that I can push myself further and harder than I ever imagined. In the last year I've learned that balance is key - sometimes you just have to step back and enjoy not training and just riding a bike with the friends you've made in this community.

 > 2. Kid Rock or Eminem? Beyonce or Miley Cyrus? Eminem puts Rock to shame. Miley puts herself to shame.

 > 3. Gillette Venus or wax? Wrong. Laser hair removal.

 > 4. What would you do if you could hang out with Bradley Wiggins or Marianne Vos for one day? Sweet talk Wiggins into giving me his Rapha clothes.

 > 5. What's your proudest moment racing with DBC teammates? My first race back with DBC Elite last year getting 2nd overall in my first cat 1 stage race. This will easily be trumped when I can give the most crucial of leadouts to the boys and watch them win - there is a lot of talent on the team and more importantly, hard workers. I want to see these guys shred legs.

 > 6. Wente Crit or Winters Road Race? Winters. How is this even a question? Saturday WheelWorks ride is where I learned how to be fast.

 > 7.  Vegas or Tahoe National Forest? Man I hate Vegas. So much.

 > 8. American Hustle or Frozen? Trick question. Mean Girls.

 > 9. When you were 16 were you a prude or prankster? Wannabe prankster. Why do you think I have tattoos?

 > 10. (Miss America question) How can bike racing or bikes save the planet? By creating more jobs in the carbon and rubber industries. Economics, man.

 > 1. What is the most important lesson you've learned on a bike? In the last year? That to achieve anything worthwhile in life, it will require lots of years of hard work and preparation, plus a bit of good luck.

> 2. Kid Rock or Eminem? Beyonce or Miley Cyrus? Neither. A more appropriate question is Tom Boonen or Nikki Terpstra

> 3. Gillette Venus or wax? Venus. The secret to a good shave is a women's razor.

> 4. What would you do if you could hang out with Bradley Wiggins or Marianne Vos for one day? I would learn as much as possible from their daily habits and routines. Then I would take Marianne Vos to dinner.

> 5. What's your proudest moment racing with DBC teammates? My proudest moment was racing at the 2014 Collegiate National Championships with DBC Elite Teammates Jon Penaloza and Daniel Kosykh for UC Davis. Success in Collegiate Cycling is contingent on good teammates, and these two individuals embody the meaning of “teammate”.

> 6. Wente Crit or Winters Road Race? Winters Road Race.

> 7.  Vegas or Tahoe National Forest? Tahoe if it came down to it, but I prefer Yosemite.

> 8. American Hustle or Frozen? Not sure, haven't spent the time to watch either.

 > 9. When you were 16 were you a prude or prankster? Prankster.

 > 10. (Miss America question) How can bike racing or bikes save the planet? The plant will ultimately take care of itself, but bikes can help humans remain part of that story longer.

 > 1. What is the most important lesson you've learned on a bike? In the last year? Hard not to come up with a cliché lesson here, because there are so many important lessons spoken from cyclists about cycling that are all valid. This year particularly I've learned how valuable and redeeming it is to work for my teammates. When we all work together to set one of us up for the win, we are greater than the sum of our parts and achieving a goal in this manner is the best prize racing can deliver.

> 2. Kid Rock or Eminem? Beyonce or Miley Cyrus? Eminem, I still know the lyrics. Beyonce without question, after all she had one of The Best Videos of All Time. And off her most recent album, Pretty Hurts is a profound pop essay on the internal conflicts produced by female objectification and the juxtaposition of internal and external beauty. Miley just can't compare.

> 3. Gillette Venus or wax? Electric razor. I'm not very hairy.

> 4. What would you do if you could hang out with Bradley Wiggins or Marianne Vos for one day? Marianne Vos. Based on her interviews she seems like a genuine human being that a mortal like me could actually have a conversation with. She's the best in the world at what she does, and doesn't seem too carried away by it. Wiggins doesn't seem like all that interesting of a person.

> 5. What's your proudest moment racing with DBC teammates? Daniel Kosykh laying down the attack in the last km of the UC Davis Land Park Criterium this year to draw out Chuck Hutcheson and allow me to counterattack for the win.

> 6. Wente Crit or Winters Road Race? Never done either. Write-in vote for Saturday Worlds, the Dubworks ride. No glory greater than winning KOM points on Cantelow and the Putah Creek sprint.

> 7.  Vegas or Tahoe National Forest? Tahoe. Natural beauty trumps human cesspool.

> 8. American Hustle or Frozen? Frozen. Good movie with a great soundtrack.

> 9. When you were 16 were you a prude or prankster? Not sure. I don't have a very good memory of myself at 16, even though it wasn't all that long ago.

> 10. (Miss America question) How can bike racing or bikes save the planet? Bike racing certainly won't save the world, given the infrastructure and resources required to even put on a top level amateur event. Racing is a very self-serving activity and a luxury that I am happy we are able to enjoy. I don't think bikes can save the planet from us humans, but 50 years from now whatever state the planet is in I hope to find myself on a bike.

 Chris Bowlus

Big puts the hurt on the 'ton

(Ed. note, you’ll notice Chris got to a slightly different list of questions, because, well, because he’s Big)

> 1. What is your favorite brand of spoke nipple and bottom bracket? I have no idea, but once when I was having trouble with some wheels Craig Dinger suggested using a “good nipple lube."

> 2. Kid Rock or Eminem? I’m more of a Snickers guy.

> 3. Gillette Venus or wax on/wax off? Men are from Mars. Straight edge.

> 4. What would you do if you could hang out with Bradley Wiggins or Marianne Vos for one day? Grow lamb chops with Wiggo.

> 5. What's your proudest teammate moment racing? Hearing about Steggall missing the turn at Bariani…and at Madera…and at….

> 6. Wente Crit or Winters Road Race? Winters. Less wind, smaller hills, and if you get dropped it’s a short ride over to Berryessa Brewery.

> 7. Beyonce or Miley Cyrus? I’m more of a wrecking ball

> 8. American Hustle or Frozen? Are those dance moves? I don’t get out much. I’m too busy riding my bike.
