DBC Race Team

September Race Team Report by Vance Russell

Cross time has arrived. Finally! All that road racing has been useful to get ready for the best racing of the year! We did get word of a couple of awesome results. First Matt Rodriguez continued his successful ways this year in the pro, 1, 2 races winning the overall California Cup, which is a points race for multiple races and disciplines during August and September and hotly contested in all categories. Congratulations Matt!

Henleyville is typically the last race of the year and DBC Race Team did not disappoint. Makenzie Delaughder won the women's category 4 race against some formidable opponents (and a 4 year old girl!). Makenzie said "The pack kept a good paceline throughout the laps. During the third lap there were eight of us left out of the thirteen women, heading towards the finish. Once we saw the hill we started to pick up the pace. As we began going up the base of the hill I stayed in my saddle and shifted into one easier gear. When I realized I was in the front I looked behind myself for a moment and at the same time got out of my saddle and began to sprint. Hearing my Mom and Aunt cheering me on with much enthusiasm, I crossed the finish line." Fred Schnaars added  "She was so excited afterwards". Congratulations Makenzie and way to close out the season!

Makenzie Delaughder rocks the Henleyville Category 4 women's Race.

Speaking of Fred, he and Craig Dinger both placed in the top 10 of the Master's 45+ race despite the fact that they both forgot their racing kit and had to do the whole race naked, except for shoes. "The sprint was the hardest part" commented Fred after the race. "My taint ain't" quipped Craig Dinger despite initially saying "No comment." Way to tough it out old guys!
