2013 Tours
Synopsis of DBC tours being offered in 2013
Following is a list of 2013 Davis Bike Club tours and dates. Sign-ups for tours begins at the general membership meeting on Monday, February 11th at the Bicycle Hall of Fame, 3rd and B Street, at 7pm. We do not accept candidates before the meeting; however, anybody can contact the tour leader for more information. For those who cannot make the meeting, all tours will be held open for sign-ups for two weeks after the meeting. If a tour is overbooked, selection among qualified riders is done by random process, including a waiting list.
Please note: Some of these tours may require deposits and payments which may be deducted for costs if a rider cancels. Check with your tour leader and understand the particular tour’s policy before you sign up!
2013 Davis Bike Club Tours
- March No-Fools Tour, 25 March - 29 March
To avoid ending on Easter weekend, this year our tour occurs entirely in March. We're heading south to Monterey this time, with overnight stops in Benicia, Silicon Valley, San Juan Bautista, and Monterey's Cannery Row. Highlights include the Benicia Bridge, the Iron Horse, Coyote Creek, and Monterey Bay Trails, Calaveras Road, two former California capitals, two historic missions, old Fort Ord, the 17-mile drive, Pebble Beach, and Carmel. Distances are 40-60 miles; expect some hills every day. Hotels are 2 to 3 star, and include breakfast. Sag will carry luggage and snacks. Total cost: $225. Contact Marilyn Dewey for additional details.
- Sierra Foothills Tour, 26-28 April (The Spring Version)
This out-n-back weekend tour departs early from Davis on Friday morning destined for a 2-night stay in Nevada City. Rated D-3, you'll climb almost 6,000' in 90 miles on Friday, have an optional ride day on Saturday, and return (downhill) to Davis on Sunday. Except for lunch on ride days, all meals are rider responsibility. Participants make their own housing arrangements for 26-27 April at Nevada City's Outside Inn. For more information contact Bill Sbarra.
- Oregon South Coast Tour, 15 - 25 July
We pick up where we left off 7 years ago...in Eugene, OR at the end of the Oregon North Coast Tour. With fifty- to sixty-mile segments each day and a couple of two-night overlays, we’ll have time to enjoy spectacular vistas, spot terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, eat blackberries, and smell peppermint. Yes, there are hills, tunnels with flashing lights, art-deco bridges, and traffic on the Hwy 101 parts of the PCBR, but there is compensation in the wide shoulder and spectacular seascapes. DBC members will pay $630 for double occupancy in two- and three-star hotels, most breakfasts, sag and luggage service, two or three group dinners, and the chartered bus ride back to Eugene. The deposit is $100 with the balance due June 15. Contact tour leaders Bruce & Marilyn Dewey for more information.
- Gold Lakes Tour, 20 - 23 September
Hub tour from the Feather River Park Resort in Graegle, an hour north of Truckee. A range of rides offered at altitude minimum of 4300'. Rides vary from leisurely rides around the resort, to D-4 rides with over 4,000' of climb. Other recreational opportunities include golf, tennis, and swimming. Accommodations are shared cabins. All meals, except for one dinner, are included in cost. Meals are 'communal kitchen': everyone pitches in on food prep or KP. Sag support. Tour limit is 16, with cost estimate of $225 per person. A $50 deposit required with sign-up. Contact tour leader Dave Joshel for particulars.
- Tour de Bakery, 24 - 28 September
Back by popular demand Stu Bresnick, DBC President Emeritus, has agreed to lead this fabulous tour for its sixth time. Our first day takes us from Davis to Winters, through the Berryessa Gap to the Napa Valley and our destination in Calistoga. The next day we head to beautiful Bodega Bay for a two night stay. We then ride thru the headlands with a couple of different options for arriving in San Francisco (by ferry or by bike). On our final day, riders can ferry to Vallejo and then ride home to Davis, or let BART/Amtrak get you there. This tour is all about great bakeries and the kind of cycling that people pay big bucks for. Don't miss out! Contact tour leader Stu Bresnick.
In addition to these tours, the Club will be offering breakfast, lunch or “snacking” rides and other fun events for members who are unable to participate in extended tours. We will be looking for volunteer leaders for these rides.
