Summary of tours offered by DBC in 2011

Following is a list of 2011 Davis Bike Club tours and dates. Sign-ups for tours begins at the general membership meeting on Monday, February 14th at the Bicycle Hall of Fame, 3rd and B Street, at 7pm. We do not accept candidates before the meeting; however, anybody can contact the tour leader for more information. For those who cannot make the meeting, all tours will be held open for sign-ups for two weeks after the meeting. If a tour is overbooked, selection among qualified riders is done by random process, including a waiting list.

Please note: Some of these tours may require deposits and payments which may be deducted for costs if a rider cancels. Check with your tour leader and understand the particular tour’s policy before you sign up!

2011 Davis Bike Club Tours

 

  • March Fools III Tour, 28 March - 1 April

March Fools in Marin County

This is a reverse-route of the popular Davis-Davis loop through Napa Valley and San Francisco. A distinctive feature of this tour are the ferry rides into and out of San Francisco. The tour is rated C-2,3 with ride days averaging 60 miles. Accommodations are upscale double-occupancy hotels in San Francisco, Bodega Bay, a Cloverdale B&B, and Napa. Spaces available for 12-15 riders and $50 deposit holds reservation. Total cost: $240. Contact Marilyn Dewey for additional details.

 

 

 

  • Nevada City Tour, 15-17 April

Our intrepid tandem team leaders depart early from Davis for a tour that will appeal to any rider who seeks long ride days with elevation. Rated D-3, the Nevada City Tour has a hundred-mile day with almost 6,000 feet of climb before reaching the namesake city. Saturday is optional, but sightseeing and window shopping in this quaint Gold Rush community is a plus. Except for lunch on ride days, all meals are rider responsibility. Participants make their own housing arrangements for 15-16 April at Nevada City's Outside Inn  http://www.outsideinn.com/ Sunday, you return home, only this time you descend 6,000 feet.   • Colorado Rockies Tour, 27 July - 4 August

A mountain tour that is a favorite of the tour leader. This C-3 rated tour totals 217 miles with options for side trips. The route goes over Vail, Fremont, and Independence passes. Lodging is in hotels at Glenwood Springs, Beaver Creek, Frisco, Leadville, and Aspen.  Layover days at some locations. Trip capacity is 14-18 with $150 deposit.   • Lassen Tour, 26-28 August

Extended weekend of riding in scenic area highlighted by a rigorous 84-mile ride with 7,800 of climb. Rated D-4. Additional optional rides have been planned as well. Accommodations are shared cabins with bath at the KOA Campgrounds in Shingletown. All meals included in communal kitchen supervised by Chef Joshel. Sag wagon support with assigned driver. Participation limited to 16 and total cost is calculated at $150, or less. A $50 deposit is required at sign-up. Contact Dave Joshel for more information.

 

 

 

 

  • Oregon Columbia Gorge Tour, 27 August - 3 September

This popular tour always fills up, so sign-up early. A westward loop from Silverton travels through Portland, the Columbia Gorge, and around Mount Hood. The Tour is rated C-3, with the more rigorous rides towards the end. Accommodations are hotels which are bike-friendly. Total cost is approximately $500 and includes two breakfasts and a SAG wagon with an assigned driver. Number of participants is 16-18. A $75 deposit reserves your spot to see Oregon in full beauty.   • Mammoth Lakes Tour, 4-11 September

A bike vacation for the whole family in the Eastern Sierras. Hub based tour from condominium resort, with ride options ranging from children on paved bike trails to challenging D-4 climbs at high elevation. A novel feature of this tour is the opportunity for an optional High Sierra Fall Century. A wide range of activities are available, including swimming, mountain biking, zip line, and a breath-taking gondola ride. Participants make their own reservations at the Viewpoint Condominiums.   • Gold Lakes Tour, 16-19 September

Hub tour from the Feather River Park Resort in Graegle, an hour north of Truckee. A range of rides offered at altitude minimum of 4300'. Rides vary from leisurely rides around the resort, to D-4 rides with over 4,000' of climb. Other recreational opportunities include golf, tennis, and swimming. Accommodations are shared cabins. All meals, except for one dinner, are included in cost and meals are communal kitchen under direction of, Dave Joshel. Sag support. Tour limit is 16-18, with cost estimate of $175 per person.   • Mt. Shasta Tour, 9-12 September – CANCELLED

This is a C-3,4 tour with ride days that all begin from the hub city of Mt. Shasta City. Rides begin on Friday afternoon, September, 9th, with the leader offering several ride options to start. The Saturday and Sunday rides are more organized, with sag wagon support that includes liquids and refreshments. This tour is characterized by long climbs and descents amid spectacular scenery. Monday can be a rest day or ride options before heading back home. Double occupancy accommodations are provided by the Woodsman Hotel and lodging is included in the cost of the tour. Participants make their own reservations. The hotel booking includes a light breakfast. Other meals are not included but several good restaurants are within walking distance.  Tour cost is $125, with a $25 deposit required. Ride Leader Roger Willmarth, will gladly give more information to interested persons.

 

In addition to these rides, the Club will be offering, breakfast, lunch or “snacking” breakfast rides and other fun events for members who can’t do extended rides, for whatever reason.  We will be looking for volunteer leaders for these rides.
