What
NAHBS, the North American Handmade Bicycle Show, is the world’s number one custom bicycle show. It moves from city to city each year and showcases the talents of artisans from around the world who make the most precise and beautiful bicycles on the planet. NAHBS aims to be a meeting point for frame builders and consumers looking for handmade custom bicycles, for the sharing of ideas, and the promotion of a special industry with a rich history dating back to the early Nineteenth Century.
Distinction
What makes NAHBS special, and what keeps it fresh and interesting to the public is that it moves from one region to the next, year on year. Thus the show maintains an atmosphere of electric enthusiasm among the public, and with the volunteers without whom the show couldn’t happen. Locals better catch it this year, because it could be a long time before the show returns!
Exhibitors & Audience
Exhibitors from four continents and more than 20 US states make up a list expected to be close to 150 companies. They will be joined by around 7,000 attendees, and a media corps of 150.
NAHBS has become a "must attend" annual event for bicycle enthusiasts from more than 40 states in the USA, and around the world. These individuals keep coming back, drawn by the craftsmanship, quality and innovation of bicycles on display at NAHBS, as well as the opportunity to rub shoulders with the builders and talk bikes. It is no secret that many mass-producers visit the show looking for good ideas for their bicycle lines! Yet with the creative advantage as well as smaller, more flexible production processes, NAHBS builders remain at the cutting edge year in, year out.
Types of non-cycling people commonly attracted to the show include: students, artists, engineers, designers, metal workers, painters and architects, transportation advocates, style leaders.
The Bikes
The range of designs and quality of finishing is astonishing to first-time show goers. Most of these bicycles sell in the $5000.00 - $15,000.00 price range. Some go over $50,000. Lance Armstrong himself visited the show in 2008 and purchased a bicycle which now hangs in his Mellow Johnny's store in Austin, Texas.
Seminars
This seminar series provides information from some of today’s most celebrated frame builders, and are available to general attendees as well as the frame building community. These seminars and workshops will be held in conference rooms adjacent to the main exhibition hall.
Media
In 2011 150 media representatives from 84 media organizations attended the show. Media coverage included television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and internet media.
NAHBS was talked about all over the internet. Google searches for NAHBS and North American Handmade Bicycle Show search turn up a combined 550,000 references. Discussion is active on dozens of handmade frame forums and newsgroups.
News stories and features about the show span North America, South America, Europe, Russia, Korea, Japan and Australia. That’s six continents!
What's Special About the Sacramento Show
The Sacramento show in 2012 takes NAHBS into the heart of the world's most concentrated region of experienced handmade frame builders with more than 20 operating within 150 miles of the city.
Sacramento has a very strong cycling culture which is expected to shine in the month of February, when NAHBS sponsors ArtBike!, a celebration of bicycle related art around the city that gets the community in the mood for NAHBS.
Features of the NAHBS Weekend on 2-4 March include numerous extra-show activities including special bike rides, the NAHBS Beer Tour, Gastronomy Tour, Pizza Tour, and the ArtBike! Tour.
History
Started with 700 attendees in Houston Texas and has grown across the country visiting cities such as San Jose, Portland, Indianapolis, Richmond and Austin with 7,300 attending.

A show like NAHBS is a huge undertaking on many different levels. We couldn’t do it without volunteers, and we’ve been fortunate over the years to have had some of the best people on Earth volunteer for us. Why do we think so highly of our volunteers? Because many share the same passion we do: We all love handmade bikes.
Whether you enjoy meeting new people or you just want to lend some of your bicycle knowledge, we have many opportunities for you to be a part of NAHBS when it rolls into Sacramento in March.
All volunteers will receive a NAHBS Team Member shirt and a free day’s admission for each 4-hour shift worked.
