Davis Area Permanent Routes
A resource page for randonneurs who would like to ride a Permanent route in the Davis area.
What is a Permanent?
A Permanent is like a brevet that you can arrange to ride at any time, not just on one specific date established by the organizer. Permanent routes may start and finish in the same location, or they may run point-to-point. They can be any distance of 200km or more. Routes of 100-199km are called Permanent Populaires.
Permanent routes have been created, researched, ridden frequently, and are 'owned' by individual RUSA members. The details of each route including all documentation (registration forms, cue sheets, maps, etc.) belong to the Permanent Owner. You must register with the Route Owner to ride a permanent for credit. There may be a nominal fee ($5 is typical). Permanent routes are NOT owned or organized by the DBC.
How do I register for and ride a Permanent?
- Select the route.
- Select the date and time you want to ride it.
- Contact the route owner, preferably a couple of weeks in advance. (Do not contact the DBC.)
- The owner will provide the materials required for you to register for and navigate the ride.
- When you have completed the ride, you will submit your permanent card and any required receipts/documentation to the route owner. He/she will validate your card and return it to you.
A Permanent may be ridden alone or with a group. All participants are required to be RUSA (Randonneurs USA) members. Each participant registers separately, including members of a tandem team.
