Advocacy

Each year, the DBC supports bicycle advocacy with donations to local, regional, and national cycling entities.

The DBC allocates money each year to be donated to bicycling advocacy.  The amount is designated by the Club’s Board of Directors.  The nominal annual advocacy budget is set at $5,000. This amount may be increased to support emerging advocacy needs and one time donations.

The Club President is responsible for donations to the advocacy organizations with which the DBC has ongoing agreements, as well as for discretionary and one-time advocacy donations.

2013 Advocacy

The budget was set at $6,000 (an increase of  $1,000) required to consolidate advocacy donations.

Ongoing (long term) annual donations include, the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame, American River Parkway Foundation, and the League of American Bicyclists.  The DBC also has established yearly advocacy donations that are de facto ongoing contributions to the California Bicycle Coalition and Sacramento Area Bicycle Advocates.  Together, long term and ongoing yearly donations accounted for about 85 percent of the 2013 advocacy budget.
